The Online Intergroup of Alcoholics Anonymous (OIAA) is an international service entity. It supports and connects online A.A. groups worldwide. Founded to serve the growing community of digital AA meetings, OIAA helps online groups stay connected to the broader AA service structure.

OIAA maintains a comprehensive directory of online AA meetings. As a result, members anywhere in the world can find a meeting that fits their schedule and needs. The directory lists meetings across multiple platforms and time zones. Therefore, it serves members who prefer online participation alongside or instead of in-person meetings.

As a service entity, OIAA supports online groups in following AA’s Twelve Traditions and service structure. Additionally, it provides guidance to online groups navigating questions about formats, anonymity, and how digital meetings relate to the broader fellowship. OIAA also serves as a resource for intergroups and central offices seeking to understand and support their online members.

It operates under the Ninth Tradition as a nonprofit organization. Its mission is using technology to carry the A.A. message.

 

Core Mission & Purpose

  • Carrying the Message: OIAA serves as a bridge for the alcoholic who still suffers, providing access to recovery resources via the internet.

     

  • Supporting Groups: It acts as an “umbrella” organization for over 1,000 online meetings, offering a centralized directory and guidance for groups that meet via video, phone, email, or chat.

     

  • Promoting Unity: It fosters connection between isolated online groups and the broader A.A. service structure, including the General Service Office (GSO).

  • Global Meeting Directory: OIAA maintains a comprehensive, searchable database of online meetings available 24/7 in multiple languages and formats.

     

  • 12th Step Committee: A dedicated group of volunteers who respond to emails from individuals seeking help with a drinking problem, often providing nearly immediate assistance.

     

  • Professional Outreach (CPC): Reaches out to professionals in the medical, legal, and judicial fields to provide information about how A.A. can help their clients.

     

  • Accessibility: OIAA is a critical resource for those who cannot attend in-person meetings due to physical disabilities, remote locations, military service, or health concerns.

     

Structure & Membership

OIAA is self-supporting through the voluntary contributions of its member groups and individual members. Any A.A. member can participate in its assemblies. However, voting privileges are reserved for registered online groups and elected officers. OIAA operates under a set of Bylaws and Operating Guidelines. Standing committees focus on finance, public information, and technology. The technology committee is called the World Wide Web Committee.

If you are interested in conversations in more than one  technical topic area (e.g. web sites, answering services, virtual meetings, etc.) or have a general curiosity about AA discussions in general (e.g. topics above and beyond technology like committees and group dynamics), you would probably want to select the default “General” option.
